Areas Of knee replacement Care
Osteoarthritis: this sort of arthritis is age related, caused by the traditional wear and tear of the knee. It mostly affects patients aged over 50 years, but younger people may have it.Osteoarthritis is caused by inflammation, breakdown, and therefore the gradual and eventual loss of cartilage within the joints. Over time, the cartilage wears down and therefore the bones rub together. To compensate, the bones often grow thicker, but this leads to more friction and more pain.
Rheumatoid arthritis: also called inflammatory arthritis, the membrane round the knee to become thick and inflamed. Chronic inflammation damages the cartilage, causing soreness and stiffness.
Post-traumatic arthritis: this sort of arthritis is thanks to a severe knee injury. When the bones round the knee break or the ligaments tear, this may affect the knee cartilage.
Partial knee replacement : Partial replacement of the knee involves replacing only the damaged parts of the knee with metal/ plastic non-reactive materials. Hence, partial knee replacement features a lesser recovery period and involves only a couple of incisions round the joint.
Total knee replacement: It is a surgical procedure where the diseased knee is replaced with artificial knee joint (implant). During the total knee surgery, the ends of the thighbone are removed and replaced with metal shell; the end of the leg bone is replaced with a plastic piece over a metal stem. Depending on the condition of damage of the kneecap, the under surface is also resurfaced with plastic kneecap. Many designs and different materials are currently in use for the replacement. At MEDITORE, we are using the advanced implants, delivering best clinical outcomes and increasing the quality of life.
Patellofemoral replacement : This involves the replacement of the under-surface of the kneecap and therefore the groove it sits on. it’s an efficient solution for patients affected by chronic patellar arthritis.
Complex or revision knee replacement : This procedure is performed in cases of severe arthritis or patients who have had knee replacement surgeries earlier.
